Anxiety Symptoms in Women

Anxiety is a common emotion. In fact, it’s just as common as many other types of emotions that we experience daily. Just as one may get happy, sad, excited, nervous, jealous, or angry, a person can get anxious when their life is filled with uncertainty or stress.

When that anxiety starts to grow and become disruptive to someone’s life and daily routine, it can turn into an anxiety disorder. Men and women can both struggle with anxiety, but women are more likely to develop anxiety disorders than men.

Anxiety can be unique to each person, no matter the gender, but men and women tend to experience anxiety a bit differently from one another due to hormonal and biological factors. Let’s take a look at some of the anxiety symptoms that women experience.

Excessive Worry

Excessive worry is a common symptom seen in women who struggle with anxiety. Women can often fall into the trap of overthinking. They might have to find a way to balance their relationships, careers, children, social life, personal health, and more. This can be a lot for one person to manage, which can lead many women to feel like they’re always playing catch-up and never really on top of it all.

Panic Attacks

Panic attacks are another common sign and symptom of anxiety in a lot of women. A panic attack is a sudden and intense feeling of fear. Panic attacks can cause other physical symptoms like an increased heart rate, difficulty breathing, chest pain, nausea, shaking, and/or sweating. Panic attacks are commonly associated with anxiety and are more often seen in women than men.

Changes in Eating and Sleeping Habits

Anxiety and anxiety disorders can negatively impact a person’s daily life and routine. This can cause a person to see changes within areas of their life that are essential to their survival. Someone experiencing anxiety might notice changes in their eating and sleeping habits.

For example, women may see their appetite increase, which can mean consuming more food and an increase in weight. Or anxiety can cause them to experience a false sense of fullness, which can lead to undereating and weight loss.

Women can also struggle with their thoughts keeping them up at night or waking them up in the middle of the night. These changes are common in women who suffer from anxiety. A person may even experience sleep disruptions like nightmares. If this change is left untreated, a person will usually start to experience issues in other areas of their life as well.

Withdrawing from Loved Ones

Anxiety can make a person feel like they’re a burden to others. This can make them feel like they have to pull away from family, friends, and other loved ones.

While this may seem like a good short-term solution, it can actually be more harmful in the long run. Connection is just as important as other basic human needs. It’s essential for survival and overall mental health and wellness. When taken away, it can make a person feel extremely alone and isolated.

You Don’t Have to Deal with Anxiety Alone

Anxiety can impact anyone and everyone, no matter their gender. It’s important to know that you’re not alone if you’re struggling with anxiety or some of the signs and symptoms of it.

While there are certain lifestyle changes that you can make to try to better manage and cope with how you’re feeling, getting extra help from a trained professional could be exactly what you need at this time.
