Therapie Talks

What If Understanding Yourself Didn’t Have To Be So Complicated And Time-Consuming?

This opportunity is for the person who reads the article, saves the reel—and then wonders what to actually do with it.

Maybe you’re curious about why you think or behave a certain way. Maybe you’ve been meaning to “work on” yourself but haven’t taken the first step. Or maybe you just want to be around people who take their mental and emotional health seriously.

Therapie Talks is a free monthly event where our licensed therapists break down one mental health topic that matters in real life.

Our therapists bring the clinical expertise; you bring the questions. It’s the kind of conversation that’s hard to have elsewhere—the kind of conversation grounded in real knowledge—and ultimately built for people who just want to understand themselves and their challenges better. Plus, you’ll leave with something you can actually put to work.

Every month, you’ll walk away with:

  • A clear framework for understanding something that’s been showing up in your life
  • Concrete skills you can put to use immediately
  • Connection with a community of people who get it

Anyone is welcome, whether you’re deep in the work or just starting to get curious… and you don’t need to be in therapy, considering therapy, or in any kind of crisis to be here.

Therapie Talks is held monthly—virtually, in-person at our Nashville office, or a mix of both—so whether you’re coming to our offices in Nashville, logging in from Minneapolis, or joining from somewhere in between, there’s always room for you.

And that’s it. Free, monthly, and worth showing up for. Sign up below for our upcoming talks.

NEXT UP — October 15th

Quite the Critic: Improve your self-talk while keeping your standards high.

Maybe you replay a meeting for an hour after it ends. Maybe you finish a big project and go straight to what you missed. Maybe a compliment slides right off, and a bit of criticism stays with you all week.

If that sounds familiar, you may also think it works. A lot of high achievers do. The inner critic feels like quality control, and the fear is that without it, the work gets sloppy and the motivation fades.

The research says otherwise. Harsh self-criticism is linked to procrastination, fear of failure, and burnout. People who respond to their own mistakes with understanding are more willing to try again and get better. In this free talk, Christian Bumpous, LMFT, LPC, shows you how to tell a high standard from a harsh one, and how to keep the first without the second.

This talk is for you if:

  • You talk to yourself in ways you would never talk to anyone else
  • You think your inner critic is what keeps you productive
  • You’re not sure it’s a problem, since it has worked so far
  • You worry that being kinder to yourself means settling

You’ll walk away with:

  • A way to spot your inner critic, including the versions that sound like “just being realistic”
  • A clear look at what your self-talk is costing you and whether it’s buying you anything
  • A simple test for telling a high standard from a harsh one
  • One practice for the moment after a mistake
