Therapy For Men

Is The Pressure To Provide And Perform Getting To You?

Lately, it feels like you’re holding it all in. You’re a boiling pot without anywhere for the steam to escape. It’s getting old… and maybe even worrisome.

Sure, you have supportive people in your life, but you just don’t feel good about opening up to them. Plus, you don’t want to let onto anyone that you’re suffering—you’re used to being strong, in control, and successful. You’re the one that people lean on, not the other way around.

You can’t help but notice that the pot is getting pretty hot, though, and it’s beginning to affect everything. Maybe work has become increasingly difficult as you struggle with poor concentration and decreased productivity. You’re in your head all the time, often stressed about deadlines or why Tom got the promotion over you. You had been hitting your target for a while, but something’s off and now you’re out of practice.

As a result, you’re retreating. Instead of being up front with your partner or the guys about your struggles, you’re withdrawing from activities and relationships. When you do engage, you leave the conversation feeling irritable, angry, or like sh*t. You’re so busy trying to take care of everything and everyone that you never have a chance to recharge—and when you do, you spend it stewing, drinking, or numbing out. You’re burnt out and straight up over it.

Our therapists understand the frustration you feel—many of us are men ourselves who relate to the pressures you face on a daily basis. But therapy is a great opportunity to condition your strengths as you learn how to tackle problems head-on and feel better. Let’s work together to blow off some of that steam.

Many Men Think Therapy Indicates Weakness—But Just The Opposite Is True

A lot of the men we work with in therapy are educated, successful, and high-functioning professionals who have nailed it in pretty much every area of life. Yet there’s this one thing derailing them, and they don’t know where to look—or how to ask—for help. A deep sense of pride and self-reliance get in the way of recognizing the need for support.

But none of the greats got there alone. Just as athletes require the guidance of a trainer to strengthen their physical muscles, we need the guidance of a therapist to strengthen our mental muscles. And though a lot of men hold onto some stigma about therapy, the fact is that investing in ourselves through counseling demonstrates fortitude, determination, and desire for self-enhancement.

Therapie works with high-functioning, successful men of all backgrounds in mental health counseling. Taking a solution-oriented approach to your unique obstacle(s), we will create an actionable plan that will move you forward.

At Therapie, We Give You The Map—You Direct The Way Forward

The therapy process is designed kind of like a map. Using our Three Guiding Questions approach, we help clients understand:

01 What’s Currently Happening And Why? Identify core issues and symptoms (get positioned for the race).

02 Where Do You Want To Go? Set personal goals and develop a vision for well-being (set your pace and create a goal).

03 What To Do About It? Develop strategies and implement solutions (cross the finish line).

As you set off onto the course, you’ll work alongside highly trained and experienced therapists who will provide you with essential skills throughout the process. We take an active, collaborative approach to the therapeutic relationship, tailoring the experience in a way that will help you feel safe, comfortable, and productive.

We’re also nerds about therapy who use proven modalities to help the men we work with get the results they’re looking for—including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). And to keep clients “in shape” between therapy sessions, we offer access to Akademie, where they can find lectures, videos, and other resources to reinforce their progress.

If you’re considering therapy, it’s important to know that, no matter how challenging your situation may seem, change is possible. With the right support and strategies, you can transform your life in meaningful ways like:

  • Better Control Over Emotions: Learn how to manage your feelings more effectively so you feel more in control of your reactions and less overwhelmed by stress or anger.
  • Stronger Relationships: Improve your connections with family, friends, and partners by developing better communication skills and understanding others’ perspectives.
  • Career Growth and Success: Enhance your professional life by boosting your confidence, focus, and decision-making skills, which can lead to greater success at work.
  • More Personal Happiness: Discover what truly makes you happy and work towards a more fulfilling life where you feel content and motivated.
  • Building Resilience: Become more adaptable and resilient in the face of life’s challenges, helping you bounce back stronger from setbacks.
  • Understanding Yourself Better: Gain deeper insights into who you are, your strengths, and areas for growth, leading to a more authentic and satisfying life.

Remember, taking the first step by reaching out for help is a sign of strength, not weakness. It’s the first step towards not just surviving but thriving. Our expertise, support, and resources can transform the way you understand yourself and your challenges. Let us help you clear your next hurdle.

Common Concerns Men Have Before Starting Therapy…

I’ve tried therapy in the past but didn’t get the results I wanted—how will it be any different with you?

It’s not uncommon for clients to come to us after therapy elsewhere didn’t work out. Collectively, our therapists bring decades of experience to the team and believe in building a therapeutic relationship based on trust, respect, and understanding.

Because we specialize in working with high-functioning professional men, we know which strategies will be successful in helping you develop solutions. We’re here not just to support you through the rough spot you’re in right now, but to equip you with the tools and insights necessary for lasting change and resilience.

I don’t have time for therapy.

We get it—a lot of the men we work with in counseling are busy professionals who have many other obligations at home. However, these same men have often found that integrating therapy actually enhances their ability to get sh*t done.

We strive to make therapy as accessible as possible, offering flexible scheduling through a range of appointment times as well as online sessions that can be done from wherever is private and comfortable. We can also adjust the frequency and length of our sessions to match your scheduling needs. Our goal is to make this manageable for you.

Is therapy effective?

We understand your concerns about the effectiveness of therapy—it's an investment and you want to make sure you’re getting a good ROI. But the jury’s in, and therapy works. [1]

Our therapists have worked with men from a range of backgrounds and experiences. We know how to tailor the process in a way that feels collaborative and action-oriented. As evidence-based therapy methods, the approaches we use have been thoroughly researched and proven to target common issues among men like stress, anxiety, burnout, depression, work-life imbalance, anger, and relationship discord.

Nothing in this process is set and stone and we will regularly check in with you to see what’s working and how we can adjust.
